Located in West Hollywood (Los Angeles), California Michael S. Poles is a second generation licensed general building contractor (California Contractors License No. 263193-B), certified construction manager, registered construction inspector, forensic expert witness (d.b.a. MPGroup) and mediator (d.b.a. Michael Poles Mediation) who delivers more than a half-century of business and construction expertise to his clients. Michael has built, managed and inspected industrial, commercial, residential and health care projects throughout Southern California since 1962.
As a construction consultant and testifying forensic expert witness Michael has worked closely with trial attorneys imparting his CONSTRUCTION technical expertise to counsel and has testified in trial for more than 4o years.
Michael began his indoctrination in construction at the age of three when his father began his general building career in 1945, at the end of World War II. Michael worked for his father during school breaks and weekends while growing up and later became a full-time member of his father's construction business in 1962: (Barnett B. Poles, General Contractor [California Contractors License No. 79794]) specializing in building commercial, industrial and residential projects.
After the passing of his father, Michael Poles continued building commercial buildings (as Michael S. Poles General Contractor). Michael also conducted continuous inspections of high-strength reinforced masonry and reinforced concrete work as a "Special Inspector / Deputy Building Inspector" during the course of construction for hundreds of construction projects for more than 14 years while licensed by both the County of Los Angeles and the City of Los Angeles and certified by the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO).
During this period Michael was the Inspector of Record (IOR) for numerous hospital construction projects and was registered as a Class "A" Construction Inspector for health facilities by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD), as well as for public schools, college districts and other state owned / financed facilities registered by the Division of the State Architect (DSA).
Michael also was the project Inspector of Record (IOR) for the construction of the Culver City Headquarters Fire Station No. 1 (also registered by the Division of the State Architect [DSA]).
Michael Poles was educated at the United States Navy Hospital Corps School at the Balboa Naval Hospital, San Diego, California in 1960 and served in the United States Navy Reserve as a Hospital Corpsman during which time he received two commendations and an honorable discharge in 1966. Michael majored in pre-med at Santa Monica College and at U.C.L.A Extension. He later attended courses of study at Los Angeles Trade Technical College and Lumbleau Real Estate School.
Michael received his mediation training at the Institute for Mediation Studies and by the Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution at the Pepperdine University School of Law and is a "non-attorney mediator." He has served on the Los Angeles County Superior Court pro bono panel of neutrals for more than 6 years and specializes in construction and premises liability cases.
