Michael S. Poles (d.b.a. MPGroup [California Contractors License No. 263193]) is a second generation general building contractor, construction manager and forensic expert witness who delivers more than 50 years of business experience and construction expertise to his clients. Michael began his indoctrination in the business of construction at the age of three when his father began his general building career in 1945, at the end of World War II. Michael worked for his father during school breaks and weekends while growing up and later became a full-time member of his father's construction business in 1962 (Barnett B. Poles, General Contractor [California Contractors License No. 79794] ) specializing in building commercial, industrial and residential projects.
After the passing of his father, Michael Poles conducted continuous inspections of high-strength reinforced masonry and reinforced concrete work as a "Special Inspector / Deputy Building Inspector" during the course of construction for hundreds of construction projects for more than fourteen years while licensed by both the County of Los Angeles and the City of Los Angeles and certified by the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO). During this period Michael was also the Inspector of Record (IOR) for numerous hospital construction projects and was registered as a Class "A" Construction Inspector for health facilities by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD), as well as for public schools, college districts and other state owned facilities registered by the Division of the State Architect (DSA).
Michael Poles was educated at the United States Navy Hospital Corps School at the Balboa Naval Hospital, San Diego, California in 1960 and served in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman during which time he received two commendations and an honorable discharge in 1966. Michael majored in pre-med at Santa Monica College and at U.C.L.A Extension. He later attended courses of study at Los Angeles Trade Technical College and at Lumblau Real Estate School.
In addition to his litigation support as a construction expert, Michael Poles is actively practicing Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as a mediator. He received his mediation training at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University School of Law and the Institute for Mediation Studies and maintains a high level of continuing education. Michael has served as a member of the Court ADR Panel of Mediators with the Los Angeles County Superior Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Program.
While CONSTRUCTION is Michael's primary specialty area of expertise, he also utilizes his unique education and medical training combined with more than 50 years of business experience to effectively mediate matters pertaining to Premises Liability, Real Estate, Health Care and Elder Care.
Michael currently serves on the board of directors of the Beverly Hills Council of the Navy League of the United States as the public affairs officer (PAO) and webmaster. The Navy League is unique among military-oriented associations in that it is a civilian organization dedicated to the education of our citizens, including our elected officials, and the support of the men and women of the sea services and their families: U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Flag Merchant Marines.
